Description

Fine Wash Sand (Triple Wash) is a fine sand washed to reduce clay, silt and organic matter. It is used for rendering, laying and bedding pavers, filling paver joints and other fine work where a dirty sand would stain or weaken the mix.

It is a natural material, so loads can vary a little. Collect enough for a whole job in one load where a consistent colour matters, and keep it covered and dry until used.

Where to Use

  • Rendering
  • Paving joint fill and paver bedding
  • Construction work sensitive to sand contamination

How to Apply

  1. Confirm the mix requirement – check the sand-to-binder ratio for the render or fill mix being used.
  2. Combine dry ingredients – mix thoroughly before adding water or binder.
  3. Add water gradually – mix to the required consistency for the application.
  4. Apply within working time – use before the mix begins to set.
  5. Store remaining sand dry – keep unused sand covered to preserve its cleanliness.

Important Notes

  • Chosen specifically for jobs sensitive to sand contamination, such as rendering and joint fill.
  • Washed to reduce clay and silt; it is a natural material, so loads can vary.
  • Keep covered and dry until used.
  • Pickup from Keilor East (Melbourne). Sold loose by the cubic metre in quarter-m3 steps; part loads of a quarter, half and three-quarter cubic metre are available.
  • Sand is heavy: roughly 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre, so a quarter cubic metre is about 400 kg. Check the trailer’s load rating before choosing a full load.
  • Crushed stone and sand contain crystalline silica. Keep the material damp when spreading or sweeping, avoid breathing the dust, and wear a P2 mask if it is dry and dusty.

Frequently asked questions

What does 'triple wash' mean?

The sand is washed multiple times during processing to reduce clay, silt and organic matter, leaving a clean, fine sand. It is a natural material, so loads can vary a little.

What is Fine Wash Sand used for?

Rendering, sweeping into paver joints, bedding pavers and any fine construction work where clay or silt in the sand would stain, weaken or clump the mix.

Is it worth choosing over a standard sand?

For render, joint fill and other finish work, yes: contamination shows in the result. For bulk fill or levelling, Packing Sand does the job for less.

How heavy is a cubic metre?

About 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes. A quarter cubic metre is around 400 kg, so check the trailer’s load rating before choosing a full load.
