SUITABILITY:
ROBERTS R656 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive is suitable for use with:
- PVC Backed Carpet tiles
- Fibre Backed Carpet Tiles
- Cushion Back Carpet Tiles
- Reinforced Vinyl Composition (VCT) Tiles
COVERAGE:
- Applying the adhesive with a Long Nap Roller Pile height of no less than
10mm can achieve an approximate spread rate of 8-10 square metres per litre. - “V1” 1.6mm x 1.6mm notched trowel will achieve approximately 5 square
metres per litre. - “V2” 2.4mm x 2.4mm notched trowel will achieve up to 3 square metres per
litre.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
- To be by the current Australian Standard “Floor Coverings
1884-2021 Resilient Sheet & Tiles – Laying & Maintenance Practices.” - All surfaces should be dry, smooth, sound, clean and free of wax,
grease, oil, previously applied adhesive, and other contaminants. - The relative humidity of the concrete must be measured as per the
AS1884-2021 Australian Standard. - RLA 999 may be applied onto concrete substrates with moisture content up
to 85% relative humidity tested based on the In-Situ Probe method ASTM F2170 - The alkalinity of the concrete (pH) must not be higher than 10.
- Subfloors must also be free of hydrostatic pressure And laitance on
concrete substrates should be removed before using this adhesive. - Curing time is related to temperature; this product should not be
applied at temperatures below 10°C. - Test all concrete substrates for moisture content according to the
current Australian Standards before priming or installing any floorcoverings. - Priming is only generally required when installing on overly porous
subfloors. - If priming is required, use RLA PU95.
- Indentations and uneven concrete subfloors should be treated with the
Roberts and RLA TruLevel Product range of levelling compounds and by the
manufacturer’s recommendations.
APPLICATION:
- Spread adhesive with the recommended notched trowel.
- Applying the adhesive with a 1.6mm x1.6mm “V1” notched trowel is
recommended to secure Double-Bond underlays to a substrate. - Bonding Carpet Tiles to the subfloor when laid in a releasable mode, we
recommend using a long nap roller with a pile height of no less than 10mm. - Alternatively, a 1.6mm x 1.6mm “V1” notched trowel may be used.
- For securing reinforced Viny Composition (VCT) Tiles, Vinyl Planks with
an embossed backing system, Loose Lay Vinyl Planks and Cushion Back Carpet Tiles to
a subfloor, a 1.6mm x 1.6mm “V1” notched trowel is recommended. - Alternatively, if a stronger bond is required a 2.4mm x 2.4mm “V2”
notched trowel is also recommended. - A 1.6mm x 1.6mm “V1” notched trowel is recommended to install Carpet
Tiles on double bond underlays. - Depending upon the porosity of the underlay, a second application of
adhesive may be required, or a 2.4mm x 2.4mm “V2” notched trowel is recommended. - RLA 999 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive is used in dry mode, allowing the
adhesive to dry and become clear; this will limit the transfer of the adhesive to
the back of the carpet tiles, enabling them to be relayed or repositioned with a
clean backing. - A stronger bond can be achieved by laying the material into the adhesive
film just before it dries completely; this will cause some transfer onto the back of
the material. - Complete installation according to the Floorcoverings manufacturer’s
instructions, ensuring the installation is rolled in both directions with the
recommended roller weight.
SETTING TIMES:
- RLA 999 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive will tack up and turn clear after
approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour at 20°C. - Times may vary depending on substrate absorbency, temperature, and
humidity.
CLEAN UP:
- Clean tools immediately after use with warm soapy water.
- The dried adhesive may be cleaned off using a suitable solvent cleaner
applied to a damp cloth and rubbed gently over the dried adhesive.
