Description

The Bluestone Porcelain Paver Tile brings the look of traditional bluestone paving to outdoor areas without the ongoing sealing and maintenance natural stone demands. Bluestone is a favourite for Melbourne courtyards, pool surrounds and pathways, but the real material is porous and needs regular sealing to resist staining and efflorescence. This porcelain alternative replicates the deep grey tone and textured, honed finish of bluestone in a dense, low-maintenance tile that won’t fade, stain or need resealing.

Porcelain is fired at a higher temperature and pressed at higher density than standard ceramic tile, which is why it copes so well outdoors — it resists frost, won’t absorb pool chemicals or garden run-off, and holds its colour under direct sun for years. Paired with the matching Bluestone Porcelain Riser Tile, it gives a continuous bluestone-look finish across pavers, step edges and pool copings.

  • Courtyards, alfresco areas and outdoor entertaining spaces
  • Garden paths and stepping stone paving
  • Driveways and commercial outdoor walkways

How to Apply

  1. Plan the layout — plan paver and riser tile positions together for a continuous finish across steps and coping.
  2. Prepare the base — ensure a stable, well-drained base suited to outdoor paving.
  3. Fix with an exterior-rated adhesive — select an adhesive rated for outdoor and, where relevant, pool-adjacent conditions.
  4. Grout with an exterior-rated product — choose a grout suited to ongoing weather and pool-chemical exposure.

Important Notes

  • Natural bluestone needs periodic sealing to prevent staining and efflorescence; this porcelain alternative is dense and non-porous, avoiding both.
  • As a manufactured product, expect uniform colour and finish rather than the individual variation of quarried bluestone.
  • Order to the nearest whole square metre, allowing extra for cuts.

The trade-off with any manufactured stone-look product is variation: real bluestone carries the individual character of a quarried material, while a porcelain paver reproduces that look consistently across every tile. For most residential and commercial pool and courtyard jobs, that consistency is actually the point — a uniform, predictable finish across a large paved area, without needing to hand-select pavers for colour and pattern matching the way natural stone sometimes requires. Consistency also simplifies quoting and ordering — every tile in the batch reads the same, rather than needing to hand-select for colour and pattern the way a supplier of genuine quarried stone often requires.

Frequently asked questions

Is porcelain a good alternative to natural bluestone pavers?

Yes, for most residential and light commercial outdoor applications. Porcelain won’t stain, fade or develop efflorescence the way natural bluestone can, and it doesn’t need periodic sealing. The trade-off is that it’s a manufactured product rather than natural stone, so every tile is uniform rather than having the individual variation of quarried bluestone.

What size is the Bluestone Porcelain Paver Tile?

600 x 600 x 20mm, with a matching 600 x 400mm riser tile (20mm face, 50mm drop edge) for steps and pool coping.

Is there a lighter colour option in the same format?

Yes — the Quartz porcelain paver and riser range (Greige, Grey and Anthracite) uses the same 600 x 600mm format and R11 rating for a lighter or warmer stone-look tone.
