Description
Tuscan Rock is a decorative feature stone in warm tan and brown tones, used for dry riverbeds, garden beds and general ground cover where a natural, earthy finish is wanted rather than grey or white stone.
It comes in two sizes: 20mm for garden beds and path edges, and 40mm for dry riverbeds and larger features. Mixing the two in a riverbed gives a more natural look. It pairs with Sandstone and Tuscan Topping in a warm colour scheme.
Stone does not break down like mulch, though its colour may weather over time. Lay it over weed mat on a prepared base for low-maintenance ground cover.

Where to Use
- Dry riverbeds and water-feature style landscaping
- Garden beds as low-maintenance ground cover
- Decorative ground cover generally
How to Apply
- Prepare the base – clear the area and lay a weed mat if long-term weed suppression is wanted.
- Choose the size – 20mm for a finer, more textured look or 40mm for a coarser, larger-stone finish.
- Spread to an even depth – about 50mm for 20mm stone and 70mm for 40mm, covering the weed mat fully.
- Shape the feature – for a dry riverbed, vary the spread to suggest a natural watercourse.
- Top up as needed – replenish over time as stone settles or is displaced.
Important Notes
- A weed mat underneath is recommended for long-term weed suppression.
- Choose 20mm or 40mm based on the scale of the feature being built.
- Pickup from Keilor East (Melbourne). Sold loose by the cubic metre in quarter-m3 steps; part loads of a quarter, half and three-quarter cubic metre are available.
- Decorative stone is heavy: roughly 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre, so a quarter cubic metre is about 400 kg. Check the trailer’s load rating before choosing a full load.
- Crushed stone and sand contain crystalline silica. Keep the material damp when spreading or sweeping, avoid breathing the dust, and wear a P2 mask if it is dry and dusty.
