Description
Polycell ProGuard 12 Fire Retardant Insulation Foil is built on a thermocellular PE bubble core rather than the flat closed-cell foam used in Polycell’s ThermaWrap range, giving it a different insulating structure while still delivering the reflective thermal performance a foil insulation product is chosen for. The bubble core is made up of 32mm diameter bubbles, laminated with woven foil and EPE foam, and finished with a bright foil reflective surface on the face and a low-emissivity antiglare backing behind it.
What sets ProGuard apart within Polycell’s range is the fire retardant additive built into its LDPE formulation, finished in white, giving it a genuine safety consideration beyond straightforward thermal performance for builds where that additional fire retardancy is specified. That additive doesn’t change how the product handles or installs — it’s still fixed to framing the same way a standard reflective foil would be, with the bright foil face oriented toward the air gap it’s meant to reflect across.
It’s built for the same commercial roofing, residential roofing and external wall construction applications as the rest of Polycell’s insulation range, supplied at 12mm thickness in a 30m² roll — a practical pack size for sheeting a roof or wall section without excessive off-cuts on a typical job. The woven foil and EPE foam lamination keeps the bubble core protected through the stapling and pulling of a real construction install.
Because the fire retardant additive is built into the core material itself rather than applied as a surface coating, it doesn’t wear off with handling the way a topical treatment might, which matters over the life of a roof or wall assembly once the product is sealed inside the building envelope. Getting the reflective foil face correctly oriented at install remains what delivers the thermal side of the product’s performance, regardless of the fire retardant additive underneath it.

Where to Use
- Commercial and residential roofing
- External wall construction
- Builds specifying a fire retardant additive in the insulation foil
How to Apply
- Plan the run — measure the roof or wall section against the 30m² roll to minimise off-cuts.
- Orient the foil face — position the bright reflective surface toward the air gap it needs to work across.
- Fix in place — staple or fix along the framing, keeping the bubble-core sheet taut.
- Overlap joins — lap adjoining rolls to maintain a continuous reflective barrier.
- Complete the build-up — proceed with roofing or cladding over the top once the foil is fixed.
Important Notes
- Orientation of the reflective foil face affects thermal performance — install with the foil facing the air gap.
- Keep the roll dry prior to installation to protect the bubble core and foil surface.
- Fire retardant additive is built into the core material, not a surface coating.
