Where to Use
Trade Map Gas comes in disposable cylinders with a CGA600/BOM thread, so it suits tools that take that thread. The safety data sheet describes the product use simply as a source of flammable gas.
Handling and Storage
- Use only in a well ventilated area.
- Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces, and do not smoke.
- Store in a cool (below 30 degrees C), well ventilated area and protect from direct sunlight.
- Check containers and valves periodically for leaks.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not get the gas in eyes, on skin or on clothing. The safety data sheet recommends eye protection such as protective glasses or goggles when the product is being used, and impervious gloves and facial protection when handling it. Use personal protective equipment as required.
- Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents, which the safety data sheet lists as incompatible.
First Aid and Fire
- The safety data sheet says that at very high concentrations the gas can displace the normal air and cause suffocation from lack of oxygen, with symptoms including deeper and faster breathing, dizziness, headache, nausea or loss of consciousness. Inhalation: the safety data sheet says symptoms are likely due to lack of oxygen in the bloodstream. If available and the person is breathing, give oxygen; if not breathing, apply mouth to mouth resuscitation; if the person is unconscious or shows any unusual symptoms, seek urgent medical attention.
- Liquid from the cylinder can cause burns similar to frostbite on skin or in eyes, according to the safety data sheet. For eye contact, flush with lukewarm, gently flowing water for 5 minutes or until the product is removed, and obtain medical advice if irritation becomes painful or lasts more than a few minutes.
- Skin contact: wash gently and thoroughly with water for 5 minutes or until the chemical is removed.
- In case of fire the safety data sheet lists carbon dioxide, dry chemical, foam and water fog as extinguishing media, with water fog or fine spray preferred for large fires.
- Closed, undamaged containers exposed to fire should be cooled with water spray, and the fire brigade should be called if a significant quantity is involved in a fire.
Important Notes
- The safety data sheet classifies Trade Map Gas as an extremely flammable gas (H220) and a gas under pressure that may explode if heated (H280), with the signal word DANGER.
- It is classified as a Class 2.1 flammable gas for transport (UN 1077, propylene).
- Vapours are heavier than air and may collect in low-lying spaces such as pits, where they can form potentially explosive mixtures.
- Always follow the instructions supplied with your torch and the label on the cylinder.
