Description
Moroccan zellige is known for hand glazed colour that gathers and breaks over an uneven surface. Dune drew on zellige, Berber crafts and the busy mix of the city of Agadir for a range it describes as vibrant, unshaded colour. Amaranto answers with a dusty rose terracotta glaze over a relief that recalls hand formed clay.
Made by Dune in Spain, it is a 9mm porcelain subway tile in the slim 70x280mm format. Amaranto has a gloss finish, water absorption above 0.5% and up to 3%, and breaking strength over 30 N/mm². With a Class 0 slip result it belongs on walls: a warm splashback, a powder room or a bedhead feature.

Where to Use
- Warm toned kitchen splashbacks

How to Apply
- Check the substrate: the wall needs to be sound, flat, clean and dry; fill cracks, level dips over 2mm and confirm moisture below 2%.
- Use C2 adhesive: Dune calls for a C2 cement based adhesive with porcelain, trialled on two pieces before the rest.
- Fix from the bottom up: work from floor towards ceiling, spreading roughly 3mm of adhesive, ribbing it with a no. 3 notched trowel and pressing each tile in before the adhesive skins.
- Set the joints: allow at least 2mm, or 3mm over unstable backgrounds, use self levelling spacers, and avoid a stagger beyond 25%.
- Grout carefully: spread grout with a flat rubber float into joints 2mm deep or more, then lift the residue before it dries using water or a pH neutral product, never abrasives.
Colour and Finish
Between its 21 faces and the gloss running thicker in the hollows of the relief, Amaranto shows a spread of rose, clay and paler highlights across a wall. Blend tiles from several boxes during fixing to avoid patches of one tone, and trial your grout on a few pieces, since joint colour shifts the overall warmth.
