Description
Stone Dust 3mm is the finer of our two stone dust grades, suited to detailed paving and areas that need an accurate, smooth surface. It is chosen over 5mm for tightly jointed or small-format paving where a crisp joint line matters.
Screed it 20 to 30mm deep over a compacted base, dampen it slightly without saturating it, and lay the pavers. Once they are laid, it sweeps cleanly into narrow joints. Both grades compact firm; choose by paver size and joint width.

Where to Use
- Bedding layer under pavers, particularly tightly jointed paving
- General compaction applications
- Sweeping into narrow paver joints
How to Apply
- Prepare the base – compact the sub-base before adding the bedding layer.
- Spread the bedding layer – distribute Stone Dust 3mm 20 to 30mm deep over the compacted base.
- Screed to a level depth – screed for a consistent, level bedding surface.
- Lay pavers on top – place pavers directly onto the screeded bedding layer.
- Sweep and compact – sweep excess material into joints and compact the finished paving.
Important Notes
- Its fine grade suits tightly jointed or fine-set paving particularly well.
- Also suitable for sweeping into narrow paver joints.
- Pickup from Keilor East (Melbourne). Sold loose by the cubic metre in quarter-m3 steps; part loads of a quarter, half and three-quarter cubic metre are available.
- Crushed stone contains crystalline silica: keep it damp when spreading or sweeping, avoid breathing the dust, and wear a P2 mask if it is dry and dusty.
- Roughly 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre.
