A gun-applied polyurethane adhesive that collapses to a gel as it leaves the can, made for gluing subfloor decking, applied in beads onto the mounting studs. Moisture curing, with about 20 minutes of skin time (20 degrees C, 65% RH) and a stated spread rate of one can for every 15 square metres. Supplied as an 826 ml aerosol can that screws onto the application gun.

Description

Soudabond Subfloor is a ready-to-use, single component polyurethane that collapses to a gel immediately after dispensing. It is made by Soudal for permanent subfloor bonding in building and construction.

The 826 ml aerosol can screws onto the thread of an application gun, so the bead is placed precisely rather than squeezed from a cartridge. The data sheet notes limited post expansion for fast and precise installation.

Where to Use

Soudabond Subfloor is intended for permanent bonding of all common types of subfloor decking, and for other horizontal construction adhesive applications. The data sheet lists these substrates:

  • Plywood, OSB and particle board decking
  • Timber, including frozen, wet or treated timber
  • Concrete, masonry, stone, plaster and metals

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the surfaces: they must be stable, clean, without bubbles and free of separating agents such as talcum, grease and oils. Remove any cement slurries and sinter layers on mineral substrates mechanically. Cover adjacent areas, and ensure good ventilation indoors.
  2. Load the gun: wear protective goggles and gloves, screw the can tightly onto the gun thread and shake the gun for about 30 seconds with the valve pointing downwards. Hold the can vertical while working. If required, slowly bring the can to the stated temperature range (15 to 25 degrees C) by placing it in cool or lukewarm water.
  3. Apply the beads: run uniform beads of 1 to 2 cm centrally onto the mounting studs, keeping the nozzle 1 to 2 cm from the substrate.
  4. Place the decking: lay the panels onto the gel within 20 minutes of dispensing; the skin time of about 20 minutes is measured at 20 degrees C and 65% RH.
  5. Fasten and clean up: while keeping pressure on the panels, also secure the boards with mechanical fasteners. Clean equipment with Gun & Foam Cleaner or Swipex before the adhesive cures.

Important Notes

  • Do not remove and reapply panels once placed; this damages the adhesive structure and reduces strength substantially.
  • Water resistant but not watertight, and not UV resistant.
  • Does not adhere to PE, PP, PTFE and silicone, and is not suitable for substrates with a water film or standing water.
  • Test all substrates for adhesion and compatibility before use.
  • Once opened, keep the container tightly closed and use it within a short period.

Safety and handling

  • As stated on the data sheet: observe the standard industrial hygiene procedures, wear protective goggles and gloves, and ensure good ventilation for indoor use.
  • Remove cured adhesive mechanically, never with a flame.
  • In windy conditions, take precautions so the product cannot contaminate components, objects or persons nearby.
  • The data sheet refers to the information on the container for further product safety and handling information.

Frequently asked questions

How much area does one can of Soudabond Subfloor cover?

Soudal states a consumption of 1 can per 15 square metres when gluing subfloor. The data sheet also says one can replaces up to 25 cartridges of traditional adhesive.

How long do I have to place the subfloor panels?

Place the decking onto the gel within 20 minutes of dispensing. Full strength is reached in about 24 hours (measured at 20 degrees C and 65% relative humidity). Do not lift and reapply panels, because this reduces adhesive strength substantially.

What surfaces will Soudabond Subfloor bond to?

The data sheet lists plywood, timber (frozen, wet or treated), OSB, particle board, concrete, metals, masonry, stone and plaster. It does not adhere to PE, PP, PTFE or silicone, and is not suitable for substrates with a water film or standing water.
