Description
This is a length of medium density fibreboard (MDF) moulding with a 16mm by 16mm profile, cut to 2.4 metres. It is used as a floor trim: laid along the edge of a newly laid floor, it covers the expansion gap that is left around the perimeter and finishes the junction with skirting boards or cabinetry. No manufacturer datasheet is published for this line, so the material facts below come from Wood Solutions.

About the material
Wood Solutions describes MDF as a reconstituted wood panel product, a dry-processed fibreboard manufactured from wood fibres. Synthetic resin adhesives bind the fibres and are cured under heat and pressure. MDF has an even density throughout and is denser than plywood and particleboard. It is sold raw with a fine sanded surface or with decorative overlays such as veneer, melamine paper or vinyl.
Where it is used
A scotia or quad runs along the edge of a floor where it meets a wall, skirting board or cabinetry. It can sit hard up against cabinetry or skirting boards and hides the perimeter expansion joint.
Important notes
- Wood Solutions states MDF is primarily used for internal applications, in part due to its poor moisture resistance. Keep it out of wet areas.
- The product record does not state whether the moulding is raw or finished, so check whether the surface is raw or primed before fitting, and allow for any painting or sealing that you need.
- No fixing method, density or emission class is published for this line.
