Common Questions

Power Tools FAQ

Which saw should I use for cutting tiles, a wet saw or an angle grinder?

A wet tile saw gives a straighter, cleaner cut with less chipping, especially on porcelain, and is the better choice for most tiling jobs. An angle grinder with a diamond blade is faster for rough cuts, notches and on-site adjustments where finish quality matters less. Many tilers keep both: a wet saw for the bulk of the job and a grinder for fiddly cuts.

Do I need a corded or cordless tool for tiling and flooring work?

Cordless tools are more convenient on-site, with no cord to manage or trip over, but battery-powered platforms generally have shorter continuous run time than a corded equivalent. For heavy daily trade use, particularly wet saws and grinders, corded is usually still the more reliable choice; for drills, drivers and lighter jobs, cordless is hard to beat.

What's the difference between a tile saw and a masonry or wet saw?

These terms often describe the same category of tool, a water-cooled diamond blade saw used for wet cutting tile, stone and masonry, though tile saws are typically sized and geared for finer, more precise cuts on smaller material. Check the maximum cutting depth and blade diameter against the material you’re working with before buying.

What's included with a power tool, and what do I need to buy separately?

This varies by product. Some tools are sold bare (tool only, no battery or charger), while others come as a complete kit. Consumables like diamond blades, backing pads and mixer paddles are almost always sold separately since they wear out and get replaced independently of the tool. Check the product listing for exactly what’s included, or ask our team.

What accessories do I need alongside my grinder, mixer or saw?

A grinder typically needs the right diamond blade or backing pad for the material and finish you’re after. A mixer needs a paddle sized to your bucket volume and mix viscosity, like the ones used with tile adhesives and self-levelling compounds. A wet saw needs the correct blade for tile versus stone. We stock the matched accessories for the tools we sell and can point you to the right one.
