Porcelain is fired at a higher temperature and is denser, so it absorbs less water and copes better with wet areas, outdoor use and high traffic. Ceramic is generally cheaper and easier to cut, and suits most indoor floors and walls. Both come in a wide range of looks; our team can help you pick the right one for where it’s going.

Order roughly 10% extra for a standard rectangular room. For diagonal or herringbone lay patterns, or rooms with lots of corners and cutouts, allow 15-20% to cover wastage from cuts. It’s always cheaper to order slightly more upfront than to run short mid-job on a discontinued batch.

Large-format tiles are far less forgiving of an uneven subfloor than standard sizes, since even small variations show up as lippage between tiles. If your subfloor is properly flat and level and you’ve tiled before, it’s achievable; otherwise we’d recommend a professional installer for large-format work.

Yes, we stock outdoor and pool-rated tiles with an appropriate slip (R) rating and frost resistance for exposed areas. Check the slip rating on the product page, or ask our team, since indoor-rated tiles generally aren’t suitable outdoors or around a pool.

The right adhesive depends on the tile size, substrate and location, for example a large-format or outdoor tile usually needs a flexible, high-bond adhesive rather than a standard mix. Grout colour is a style choice, a contrasting grout highlights the tile pattern while a matching grout gives a more seamless look. We stock matched adhesive and grout ranges and can recommend a combination for your tile.
