Ardex D2 Wall Tile Adhesive – 22kg

DESCRIPTION

Ardex D2 is a Premium Non Slump Wall Tile Adhesive.
Superior non slump capability – holds large non porous tiles without slump
Excellent workability – smooth consistency, easy to trowel, low odour
Approved for use in wet areas without compromising adhesion strength

Ardex D2 is a Premium Grade dispersion adhesive offering superior non slump and shear adhesion characteristics. Based on exclusive polymer technology, Ardex D2 Tile Adhesive is the ultimate performance wall tile adhesive and is suitable for interior use, over a range of substrates and for most tile types. Ardex D2 is not recommended for use on external floors or in continuous immersion applications e.g. swimming pools.

FOR FIXING (TILE TYPES)

Ardex D2 is suitable for the fixing of fully vitrified and ceramic tiles, porcelain, natural stones (excluding moisture sensitive) and mosaics.

TO (SUBSTRATES)

• Concrete, render
• Fibre-cement sheets, plasterboard
•Ardex/Undertile liquid applied waterproofing membranes (not suitable when using dense tiles over such non absorbent substrates due to prolonged drying times)

USES

Ardex D2 is suitable for use as an adhesive for Internal wall tiling (Not suitable for continuous water immersion applications eg. swimming pools)

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

In general, the surface being adhered to must be clean, firm and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, curing compounds, release agents and other barrier materials, as well as being strong enough to support the weight of the tiles being fixed. Ensure that the background’s required drying time, as given in the relevant part of AS 3958, is allowed to elapse prior to fixing the tiles.

Plasterboard

There is no need to prime the paper facing surface. However, where sheets are joined, Ardex Multiprime must be used over the base jointing compound. Do not use the topping compound in areas which are to be tiled.

Fibre Cement Sheets

Remove surface dust with a damp sponge or prime with Ardex Multiprime before tiling (priming not required when fixing fully vitrified tiles). Allow primer to dry before applying adhesive.

Concrete

This includes precast, in-situ and wood floated concrete. Allow concrete to cure for at least 28 days prior to tiling. Any surface laitance, concrete sealers, curing compounds, and other materials should be removed from the surface prior to tiling. The concrete should have adequate surface profile (e.g. broom finish) to provide a mechanical key. Smooth surfaces and/or dense concrete – greater than 35MPa and less than 50MPa, must be mechanically roughened prior to tiling. Porous render should be primed with Ardex Multiprime.

Cement Render

New renders should be finished with a wood float to the required surface regularity. Allow at least 7 days to cure prior to tiling. Porous render should be primed with Ardex Multiprime.

Painted Surfaces

Oil-based paint should be roughened mechanically and loose flaking paint should be removed.
Ensure the paint is suitable for tiling over.
Thoroughly remove water-based paints. Do not use paint stripper or solvents. Allow surface to dry after cleaning.

COVERAGE

22kg of Ardex D2 is sufficient for approximately 9-11m2 on walls using a 6 x 6 x 6mm notched trowel. The coverage will vary depending on substrate condition, tile type and application technique.

MIXING

Premixed. No mixing required.

SHELF LIFE

Ardex D2 has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in original unopened packaging at 25ºC and 50% relative humidity.

FIXING TECHNIQUE

Before fixing ensure the substrate has been prepared and the tiles are clean and free from contaminants such as dust, powders or waxes. Tiles should be fixed in accordance with AS 3958.
Substrate surface, type and size of the tiles will determine the selection of the trowel. As a general guide use a 6mm x 6mm x 6mm notch for walls. The final bed should be no more than 3mm to avoid slumping and extended drying times.

Do not spot fix tiles.

Open time is approximately 45 minutes. Only spread enough adhesive so that the tiles can be fixed within the open time.

The tiles must be pressed firmly into the freshly combed adhesive bed to ensure good contact with the adhesive. Slide the tile at a right angle to the notch pattern so that the back of the tile is completely covered by the adhesive. Tiles with ribbed or keyed back profiles should also be buttered so that the voids are filled.

Lift a tile from time to time to check that there are no voids beneath. Any surplus adhesive should be removed from the tile surface and joints before the adhesive sets.
