Description

European Oak Naturalwood Timber Veneer Flooring is part of the Oakwood series manufactured by Australian Select Timbers, pairing a genuine 3mm European Oak veneer with a 14.5mm engineered board for a floor that carries real oak character — knots, grain variation and all — with the added stability of an engineered construction. The matt UV-lacquered finish and textured surface are chosen specifically to read as an authentic solid-oak feel rather than the flatter, glossier look some engineered products default to.

Unlike a click-lock floating system, boards join with a tongue-and-groove glue system, which generally gives a tighter, more rigid joint once fully cured, at the cost of a more involved installation than a snap-together floor. At a Janka hardness rating of 6.5, it sits in solidly durable territory for a domestic floor, backed by a 20-year domestic wear warranty that reflects its intended residential use.

Where to Use

  • Residential living areas, bedrooms and hallways
  • Home renovation projects wanting an authentic European Oak look
  • Floating floor installations over a suitable subfloor and underlay

How to Apply

  1. Acclimatise the flooring — allow boards to condition to the room’s environment before installation.
  2. Prepare the subfloor — ensure it is flat, clean and dry, with a compatible underlay laid first.
  3. Glue the tongue-and-groove joints — apply adhesive to each joint as boards are laid, per the tongue-and-groove glue system.
  4. Allow the adhesive to cure — avoid heavy traffic on the floor until the glued joints have fully set.
  5. Leave expansion gaps — allow for expansion at walls and fixed obstructions as required.

Important Notes

  • The 20-year warranty is for domestic use — confirm suitability before considering it for a commercial application.
  • As a genuine timber veneer, expect natural variation in grain, knots and colour between boards.
  • The tongue-and-groove glue system requires more installation care and cure time than a click-lock floating floor.

The choice between an engineered glued tongue-and-groove system and a click-lock floating floor is really a choice about the end result rather than just ease of installation: glued joints, once cured, behave more like one continuous surface with less flex at the seams, which some installers and specifiers prefer for a premium residential result. It does mean the floor needs a longer settling period after laying before it can take heavy furniture or full traffic, since the adhesive needs time to reach full strength across every joint in the room, not just the first few boards laid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Janka rating and why does it matter?

Janka rating measures a timber’s hardness and resistance to denting — a rating of 6.5 places this European Oak in a solidly durable range for domestic flooring use, though as with any real timber veneer, some surface marking over time is normal wear rather than a defect.

Is this a solid timber or engineered floor?

It’s an engineered floating floor: a 3mm genuine European Oak veneer bonded over a 14.5mm engineered core, joined with a tongue-and-groove glue system rather than a click-lock profile.

What warranty does European Oak Naturalwood Timber Veneer Flooring carry?

A 20-year domestic wear warranty, reflecting its rating for residential rather than heavy commercial use.
