Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are denser and usually thicker than their ceramic cousins.
So, not only are they heavier, but because they are fired at much higher temperatures, just like your other household porcelain, they are much stronger, tougher and more durable than ceramic tiles. Hence the service life tends to be far greater than that of ceramic tiles too, and their price point is also higher.
That said, in relative terms, due to greater availability and widespread use, today they cost about the same as the ceramic tiles of 10 years ago. So don’t go comparing the price point, as you’re not getting the true picture.
Unlike ceramic tiles, you’ll find that Porcelain Tiles are generally factory saw-cut from a much larger sheet of Porcelain, hence the availability of larger format tiles (1200mm x 600mm) as well as mid size tiles (600mm x 600mm) and smaller format tiles (600mm x 300mm) all cut from the same master sheet. As a result minor saw-cutting variations are not only a possibility, but a likelihood.
